The Perfect Escape

solo meditation retreat

Ever feel like your life is a circus and you are the star performer? Imagine stepping out of the spotlight and into a peaceful sanctuary where the only thing you’re juggling is your thoughts.

Welcome to a Yogi Living Solo Retreat!

Picture this: a week of absolute silence, where the loudest sound you hear is the whisper of your own inner voice. No emails, no social media notifications—just you and your thoughts. It’s like a spa for your mind, but with fewer cucumbers.

In a world where being busy is a badge of honor, a solo retreat is your chance to hit the pause button and rediscover the simple joy of being. You will emerge with not just an appreciation for silence but also a clarity and inner peace that is as refreshing as the sea breeze.

So, if you’re ready to trade in your daily chaos for some tranquil solitude, a solo retreat might just be your ticket to a happier, more centered you.

Rewind And Reconnect

a journey back to yourself

You stay in the boho caravan tucked away in a quiet corner of the Yogi Living Ashram garden. Once a day we bring you a warm home-cooked vegetarian meal. The caravan has tea-making facilities, dry ingredients for breakfast and a heater. Showers can be taken at certain times in the main house.

There is a treehouse platform overlooking the gardens that is perfect for sitting meditation. Should you need to soothe away aches and pains, ask to use the Ashram outdoor hot tub, which we can set up for your sole use.

You have the option each day for a yoga session with Winnie. See below for options. You are free to borrow one of the Ashram bikes and explore the surrounding lanes, and (mostly empty) countryside.

You do not ever need to break silence, unless you choose to. If there is anything you need, simply leave a note on the table, for us to see.

A solo yoga retreat can be challenging, but it can change your life. The following testimonial describes how a week in silence and solitude lead to personal clarity, emotional healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.

My solo meditation retreat was nothing short of transformative. It was a journey back to myself, and it changed my life profoundly. For a week, I immersed myself in complete silence and solitude. The retreat allowed me to deeply reflect on my priorities and purpose. I returned to my daily life with renewed energy, a clearer sense of direction, and a newfound ability to handle stress with grace.

What To Bring

essentials for a solitary retreat

When preparing for a solo retreat where accommodation and meals are included, you’ll want to pack thoughtfully to ensure a comfortable and fulfilling experience.

Here is a list of solo retreat essentials:

Casual, comfortable clothing: Opt for clothes that allow you to move easily and sit comfortably during meditation. Think yoga pants, loose-fitting tops, and lightweight layers.
Warm layers: Don’t forget to pack some warm clothing, even in the warmer months it can get cool in the evenings.

Meditation cushion or blanket: We can provide these, but bringing your own can enhance comfort.
Yoga mat: If you prefer practicing on your own yoga mat, it’s a good idea to bring it, though there are mats at the Ashram you are welcome to use.

Toiletries: Bring your usual personal care items, including shampoo, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
Reusable water bottle: Remember to stay hydrated throughout the retreat.

Medication: If you take any prescribed medication, make sure to bring enough for the duration of the solo retreat.
Comfortable shoes: Suitable for walking or light hiking if the retreat includes outdoor activities.

Notebook and pen: For journaling insights, reflections, or any thoughts that arise during meditation or reflection.

Books or spiritual texts: Bring a few favorite books with you, but keep in mind that the focus is on meditation and reflection.

Identification: Bring any necessary documents, such as identification or confirmation details for your retreat.

Personal blanket or shawl: For added comfort during meditation or relaxation.
Snacks: Though meals are provided, having a few healthy snacks on hand can be useful.
Flashlight: Bring a small torch to help find your way in the dark.

Electronics: To get the most from the solo retreat, consider leaving your phone and other devices with us, or at least keep them turned off and stored away.

By packing thoughtfully, you ensure you have everything you need so you can focus on your personal growth during the solo retreat.

solo retreat yoga options

Being on solo retreat never means doing nothing. You may feel you have enough on your plate but we do recommend taking advantage of private yoga instruction (without having to break silence) during your stay at the Ashram. Including mindful exercise into the retreat supports your process, and can be highly beneficial.

Please be aware these options need to booked separately and depend on availability of teachers. We do not list prices for these, instead we encourage the practice of giving. Any amount you can give supports the work we do here.

A powerful Kundalini Activation practice to promote complete inner wellbeing. The practice aims to activate the solar plexus, raising the samat prana, or solar heat, within the body.

Breath plays a major role in Kundalini Activation. Methods used include rapid breathing, like Breath of Fire, as well as alternate nostril breathing and deep, belly breathing.

An active meditation with breath work, wild movements, and emotional release. Helps move stagnant energy and break conditioned patterns that keep one imprisoned in the past.

Kriyas are combinations of postures, breath work, and mantras. Each kriya has a specific outcome, such as detox, increased energy, or emotional balance. Kundalini Kriyas focus energy on and through the chakras to activate kundalini.

Secret practices from Tibetan monasteries. The rites combine movement, breathwork, and meditation to balance the chakras and create a shield against negative energy.

Clients are freed from stuck emotions from hurtful past relationships and life traumas. We can then create a new positive energy frequency. The 3 step process is a complete emotional and physical reset.

These practices are a part of a comprehensive system aimed at self-realization, and the harmonious integration of body, mind, and spirit. Guidance with an experienced Ashram teacher during your solo retreat can significantly deepen your experience.

Retreat is not a matter of hiding or running away. It is an opportunity to heal, reflect, and emerge stronger, more connected to the essence of who you truly are.

Echoes In Silence

what to expect

The experience of a solo retreat is one of marked silence and stillness. It is designed for deep self-awareness and spiritual growth. We leave the structure of the retreat to you but typically, this will involve extended periods of meditation and contemplation and mindful activities such as walking, eating, or simply observing nature.

1. Arrival And Setting

After settling into your accommodation, you may notice how different it feels from the busyness of everyday life. The environment is quiet and intended to minimize distractions and external stimuli. The setting itself plays a significant role in calming the mind and preparing you for an inward dive.

2. Establishing A Routine

It is important to establish a daily routine. Structure helps you stay focused and less likely to become distracted or disoriented. Your day should be simple, with minimal activities beyond that of yoga, meditation, and contemplation. Long, purposeless walks in nature are also beneficial. It is helpful to engage mindfully with everything you do: taking your time to observe and enjoy each sensation.

3. The Inner Journey

As the solo retreat progresses, the external world begins to recede. The mind may initially resist the quiet, trying to find distractions or fixating on discomforts. However, with continued practice, these mental creations gradually subside, and a deep silence emerges.

4. Encountering Challenges

Silence and solitude can be daunting, especially for those not used to being completely alone. Without the usual distractions, thoughts and emotions buried deep in the subconscious may begin to surface. Sometimes preceded by physical discomfort, mental restlessness, or emotional turbulence. This can be challenging. Take the opportunity to observe without judgment. The mind chatter will subside.

5. The Rewards of Solitude

As the retreat nears its end, you may notice a shift in your mental and emotional state. There is likely to have been some degree of emotional release and healing. But now the mind is quieter, thoughts are clearer, and there is a deep sense of calm. Many participants report feeling a stronger connection with themselves, and a renewed sense of purpose. It can be a life-changing experience for some.

6. Reintegration

Returning to the outside can be difficult. The simplicity and clarity experienced during the solo retreat may contrast sharply with the noise and chaos of the world. So take care! And be patient with yourself as you navigate this transition.

A solo retreat is a profound and transformative experience. An opportunity to leave the chaos of the external world and connect deeply with yourself. The effort and discipline required is rewarded with personal growth, emotional healing, and a lasting sense of inner peace. Retreatants leave better able to handle stress, keep focus, and approach life with greater mindfulness and intention.

frequently asked questions

The structure of the retreat is entirely up to you. However, we do strongly advise maintaining silence for the duration of your stay, where possible. Silence, or mauna, has been used for centuries as a means to both deepen your meditation and to catalyze personal insight.
Should you need support, emotional or otherwise, feel free to talk with one of the teachers at the Ashram.

The booking is for accommodation, meals and basic facilities only. There are options which you can choose on any of the days of your retreat (click here) which need to be booked separately. We do not list prices for these, instead we encourage the practice of giving. Our main purpose is to provide space for you to retreat on your own terms.

You do not need to meditate, though it is normal for such retreats. You can use the time for journalling, personal reflection, prayer or art. You can also bring your own practice. One of the Ashram teachers can provide simple instruction: teaching is based on Indian and Tibetan forms of kundalini tantra yoga, and is non-denominational.

Not at all. Yoga classes are optional and tailored to individual needs, without the complicated postures you may see online.

Yogi Living Ashram resident yoga teacher Winnie Winnetu speaks English, Swedish, Danish, French and German so don’t worry if you cannot speak Swedish!

Yogi Living Ashram is located in Skåne, South Sweden close to the vibrant city of Malmö. The closest international airports are Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup  (75 km) and Malmö airport, Sturup (30 km) with good rail connections to Malmö and on to Trelleborg (our closest town). You can also come by car through Germany and take the ferry from Rostock to Trelleborg. There are 3 sailings (6 hours duration) per day.

We can pick you up by car from Malmö or Trelleborg, but please ask for this in advance.

The surrounding countryside is picture-postcard Sweden. There are many small picturesque villages and a mixture of open farmland, woodland, and lakes. The wonderful coastline of the Swedish Riviera is only 5km away. When the weather allows we can arrange an excursion to places like the Ales Stones (the “Swedish Stonehenge”) and local castles.

You can also hang in the garden under where we have a treehouse meditation platform and a jacuzzi.  There is a small ICA supermarket 5 minutes walk from the ashram.

The yoga I teach is based on awakening the heart center and grounded on integrating mind and body. This approach supports optimal brain function and harmony between mind, body, and soul. As a result, my clients are more able to handle stress and enjoy a deeper, richer experience of life. We also see a noticeable increase in expressions of happiness love and compassion.

I teach forms of yoga learned directly from Indian yogis and Tibetan monks and supported by modern scientific research.
